Young, smart, and real

I got to do an interview with Caroline Chambers
5

If you have time to watch this thirty minute recording, I hope you do. It was such a fun conversation and she was very generous about my new book. We talked about favorite tropes (mine are the dumbest ones) and how Jane Jackson is relatable to the point of making you feel uncomfortable. We talked about having little kids and big kids and needing to be reminded of why you might want to touch your partner after a long day of being a person.

is a delight. Sorry I do so many weird things with my face.

When we finished recording, I spent the rest of the day thinking about how truly authentic people always seem to find their way to the top. Caroline Chambers is a big success, by any measure. She’s living her best life as a New York Times bestselling author (WHAT TO COOK WHEN YOU DON’T FEEL LIKE COOKING, just get it and thank me later), entrepreneur, mom of (nearly) four. I’ve been watching her career skyrocket for a while. She’s talented and certainly hard working, but I think the real secret sauce is her willingness to laugh and share her heart as she creates. She is so completely herself while she’s doing what she does that people can’t help but be drawn to her.

This is a bit of a chicken / egg question - is the goal to find a thing you love so you can tap into your best self? Or is it to tap into your best self and see where it leads you? Watch this video and you’ll see what I mean -

has it figured out. If you don’t subscribe to her substack, What To Cook, you must. Yesterday she published a great summer reading list with two other totally authentic substackers - and . I was in no way surprised to learn they’re friends.

Oh, and It’s A Love Story is out Tuesday

Things to know:

  • I’m getting excited. I have eleven dresses ironed and ready to be shoved into my little suitcase. I’ve started baking and freezing my mom’s oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for my launch party, which seems both excessive and necessary. My kids are coming, and so is my sister. As you can tell, I’m orchestrating a big pre-pub hug.

  • Preordering means everything. If there’s a chance you’re ever going to buy this book, please consider doing it now. It helps me get some specific elusive accolades, it signals to my publisher that it’s a good idea to keep printing books, it tells your local indie to stock the shelves. Anyway, I’m a broken record, but, look, here’s a little button to help!

    PREORDER

  • If you wish those preorders were signed, Athena Books in Old Greenwich, CT has you covered. I’ll sign and personalize every order. They also have my other books if you want a signed set.

Tour Update… tickets are going fast!

I can’t believe it either, but things are selling out fast. Please note that many of the sold out venues have waitlists, so if you want to come, please sign up.

Also if you buy a ticket that comes with a book, that counts as a preorder! Putnam’s preorder sweepstakes is open till Monday, so please upload that receipt (or any preorder receipt) for a chance to have me zoom with your book club.

EVENTS

Other People’s Books

Will I accept this rose? You betcha! When I’m back from tour, I’ll be in conversation with Hannah Brown for the launch of her second novel THE LAST FLING BEFORE THE RING at Barnes and Noble Union Square in NYC. June 24 6pm. Pro tip - every event at BN Union Square sells out, don’t wait! (If you have concerns about the dress I’m wearing in this photo, I share your concerns and am looking to rectify.)

SEE HANNAH

I think that’s all I’ve got. I hope you all have a great Memorial Day Weekend. I am pretending it’s not freezing in the northeast, and I’m moving forward with multiple outdoor picnic situations. “Fake it till you make it…” happens to be the first line in It’s A Love Story, and I’m running with it.

Lots of love,

Annabel
